Kitsham Environment

At Kitsham we are really keen on doing our bit for the environment and we appreciate that many of our guests are keen to do likewise whilst on holiday. Many holiday cottages run by agencies are unable to offer even basic recycling facilities, instead relying on guests to take their empties to municipal facilities.

One of the many benefits of coming to stay at Kitsham is that we not only recycle on site but we also have a huge range of other environmental benefits.

(Photo voltaic) solar panels on cottage roofs.

Composting of organic kitchen waste.

Outside taps fed by well water collected from the fields so that we can water the gardens with harvested rain water.

All laundry is done on site.

Heating times are optimised for efficiency and your comfort.

Cottages are fitted with energy saving light bulbs.

The food on our wonderful welcome tray is all locally sourced and supplied by local company Made With Love.

All soaps in the cottages are made in Cornwall.

We only use eco products to clean our cottages.

All our toilet rolls, kitchen roll and foils are recycled.

Washing lines are provided at all cottages.

We have bike storage on site.

We have an onsite vegetable garden and greenhouse where you can help yourself to fresh fruit and veg, as well as a Herb garden.

Environmental Projects

In addition to joining the Coast Project, we have also undertaken a number environmentally beneficial projects on our farm. We aim to reduce our footprint, allowing future generations of our family to welcome guests to stay in Cornwall.

We have installed two 15kW wind turbines that provide the electricity supply for our beef and sheep farm.

We have a rain water harvesting system in place to supply water to the cattle and also to collect dirty water and deposit it onto our fields preventing it from flowing down into the river.

We are also members of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and Natural England.
