Wildlife at Kitsham

As parents to young children ourselves, we understand that Cornwall’s countryside can provide adventure for all the family. At Kitsham Farm Holidays we invite you to explore the acres of countryside that surround our luxury cottages. So whether you are taking an early morning stroll with the dog or a brisk walk with the kids, you are very likely to see a plethora wildlife.

At Kitsham Farm Holidays we encourage a wide variety of birds and mammals onto our farm by providing bird tables in the gardens. These are visited regularly by the woodpecker and his family, along with a host of other wild birds including goldfinches, blue tits, great tits, thrushes, sparrows and robins.

Kitsham Animals

Other animals often seen in the fields are foxes, rabbits, hares, buzzards, squirrels, badgers and herons. In 2011 James and his father built a new bridge over the river where recently a kingfisher and a family of otters were filmed by one of our visitors.

There are many places within the area of Kitsham, in which to see plenty of wildlife. The Weir at Marhamchurch is a lakeside coffee house and bistro which incorporates an interactive family wildlife centre. From there you can walk to Bude along the canal and through the local nature reserve of Bude Marshes.

Kitsham Mammals

We encourage a wide variety of birds and mammals onto our farm, and we are particularly pleased to see buzzards return. For the last few years, we have had several of these magnificent birds resident and breeding here. Sparrow hawks, kestrels, woodpeckers and a host of other farmland birds seem to be increasing in numbers each year. We have recently erected several owl boxes around the farm to help barn owls to find nesting sites more easily.
